Phuket was buzzing with a flurry of activity last night as over 250 people gathered for a rally, breathing life into the campaign against violence directed towards women and children and human trafficking.

The campaign, bearing the theme Stop Violence with Love, took place in Queen Sirikit Park, under the watchful eye of Phuket Vice Governor Amnuay Pinsuran.

The Phuket rally was graced by several notable figures, including the Chief Phuket Provincial Prosecutor, Ittichot Kulrattanachote, and Supipat Anurat from the Phuket Provincial Office of Social Development and Human Security.

The anti-violence campaign also attracted support from local groups such as the Good Shepherd Sisters and the For Freedom International Foundation, whose Phuket director Mattias Bjorkqvist took to the stage to address the dangers posed by online media.

During the rally in Phuket, Vice Governor Amnuay urged all attendees to rally together to protect children and women and to replace violence with love. He cited love as the most powerful force in the world that can conquer everything, underscoring the importance of the campaign’s theme.

The Phuket rally was designed to shed light on the often-overlooked issues of violence against children and human trafficking, explained Ittichot. He also brought attention to the Domestic Violence Victim Protection Act, B.E. 2007, a law that focuses on safeguarding victims of domestic violence and correcting the behaviour of violent offenders. The legislation aims to foster harmonious family relationships and shield victims of human trafficking.

Raising awareness

To further raise awareness, small groups took to the streets after the Phuket rally event, walking along the Lard Yai Walking Street market, brandishing signs and distributing leaflets advocating the campaign’s cause. These materials were printed in three languages: Thai, Chinese, and English, to ensure the dissemination of the message to as wide an audience as possible.

The Phuket rally campaign’s efforts won’t stop here. According to an official report, additional activities are in the pipeline to keep the issue in the public eye. These include recreational activities that provide a platform for participants to voice their opinions and suggestions.

Writing competitions, quizzes, prize-winning games, and performances by children, youth, and local community leaders will also be organised, reported Phuket News.

A discussion titled Equality between the sexes to end violence against women, children, and LGBT is also scheduled at the Phuket office of the Attorney General, within the Phuket Provincial Administrative Center, this Wednesday. With so much planned and activity already underway, it’s clear that this rally campaign is making strides to bring an end to violence against women, children, and human trafficking in Phuket.
