Phuket Blood Bank: Urgent call for O-negative blood

PHUKET: The Phuket Regional Blood Center (PRBC) urgently needs O-negative blood to save the life of a foreign patient.

Donors should call 076-251178 ext 2 or 081-9588854. If donors are available, staff will be on hand after the normal the usual closing time of 4:30pm to make the blood draw (map here).

The patient in need is waiting for heart surgery at Bangkok Hospital Phuket, and 10 units of O-negative blood are urgently needed, Vathu Oart of PRBC told the Phuket Gazette this afternoon.

“The patient is in dire need of blood within six hours. Without it, the patient might not make it,” she said.

“Single platelet donations can help too, until we have the full amount of blood needed for the surgery,” said Ms Vathu.

“O-negative is a rare type of blood. There are only 25 people in the Phuket Blood Donors Club who have O-negative, and we’ve been able to contact only 15 of them. One person is coming to donate in an hour. We are still trying to contact the other donors,” she added.
