Woman found dead on Koh Sireh
KOH SIREH: The body of a middle-aged Thai woman was discovered by locals on a Pae Ong Beach on Koh Sireh on Friday.
Pol Lt Patrawut Onchuay, of Phuket City Police Station, told the Gazette that the victim, Ampai Yothapakdee, 46, had been killed no more than eight hours before her body was discovered at 10 am.
Customers at the nearby Wangkung Restaurant told the police that the woman had been seen talking to a male customer there and subsequently heading toward the beach with him in the early hours of Friday.
She was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans, which had been pulled down below her hips in what police believe to have been an attempted rape. The victim’s shoes were found some 20 meters away from her body.
“It seems that she was struck by her left ear with a heavy object, such as a rock, and dragged towards the sea,” Lt Patrawut said.
The victim’s gold earrings were still in her ears and her gold toe-ring was intact on her left foot.
“We are still investigating the case and looking for the perpetrator, but the fact that her jewelry was left behind suggests this was not just a mugging gone wrong,” Lt Patrawut said.
