Traffic safety spurs Central Festival access restriction

PHUKET CITY: From March 15 access to and egress from Central Festival Phuket from Wichit Songkhram Rd will be restricted.

In an effort to reduce traffic tailbacks and the high number of accidents at the location, Provincial Police Commander Maj Gen Decha Budnampetch has ordered that the center line along Wichit Songkhram Rd where traffic stops to enter Central Festival Phuket be blocked with traffic cones.

Traffic driving west toward Kathu will not be able to turn right into Central Festival Phuket, and traffic exiting Central Festival will be required to turn left toward the bypass road.

The change was announced at a meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall yesterday, at which Phuket Governor Niran Kalayanamit presided.

“There are traffic jams there in the morning and afternoon rush hours, and there have been many accidents,” Gen Decha said.
