Seafront plans win support
PHUKET TOWN: The powerful Department of Town and Country Planning has backed a scheme to develop Saphan Hin as a sophisticated waterfront area, the first major step towards making Phuket Town an “international city.” A firm that specializes in constructing bayfront regions is now undertaking a feasibility study but feedback from residents will be sought before any proposal is formally considered. While still only at the stage of being discussed in broad conceptual terms, the idea received support at a seminar at The Metropole hotel today. Sirichai Musikapuma, chief representative of the department, hosted the session, which was opened by Governor CEO Pongpayome Vasaputi. “I hope that Phuket will become a world destination, not just for tourists, but also for exhibitions of various kinds, as well as becoming a center for Information Technology,” K. Sirichai said.
