Ring in the rainy season at this year’s final Lighthouse Market [video]
PHUKET: The Boat Lagoon Lighthouse Market returns next month to ring in the rainy season with a three-day extravaganza of shopping, chilling and eating at Phuket’s liveliest marina.
The market will be on hiatus during April, confirmed market organizer By Kanittha, as there is a high chance of stormy weather toward the end of the month.
However, the market will return for one last time before the southwest monsoon season rolls in, and promises more high-end family entertainment, including a spectacular new light and sound show, the Phuket Gazette was told.
“The family fun along the boardwalk will be bigger and better than ever to celebrate the end of summer. Entertainment includes a special high-tech show which will literally light up the marina between 7pm and 8pm every evening,” said By Kanittha Managing Director Kanittha Prasopsirikul.
“Of course there will be the usual variety of fantastic food and drink served, plus many stalls selling local products such as handmade jewelry, handicrafts, clothes, books and much more.”
Market-goers will also be able to pick up a free raincoat or umbrella in case the weather turns, added Ms Kanittha.
Launched in January, the monthly Lighthouse Market has been a hit with Phuketians, attracting a mix of expats and locals to shop, chill and eat at the themed events, and has quickly grown to become one of Phuket’s most popular weekend hangouts.
Food stalls, bars and barbecues set up along the boardwalk offer an eclectic mix of munchies and drinks – from organic fruit juices to fish and chips, oysters, champagne and more – while the rows of stalls show off a variety of quality local products and handicrafts.
The Lighthouse Market also offers a variety of fun activities for young visitors with supervised activities, or they can burn off excess energy with a climb up to the top of the Boat Lagoon’s lighthouse.
The next Lighthouse Market will be held from May 15-17, from 5pm to 10pm.
