Provincial Councillor killed in road crash

PHANG NGA: Arkom Ackasinthawangkool, 39, a businessman and member of the Phuket Provincial Council, was killed instantly on Thursday night when his Range Rover car was hit by a bus on a tight bend near Baan Bangwan, Kuraburi District. Khun Arkom, known in Phuket as “Kom Sapam”, was the owner of the Khon Thai 1 bar in Phuket Town and the Khon Thai 3 bar in Karon. He sold Khon Thai 2, also in Phuket Town, about six months ago. In addition, he owned several shrimp farms and a timber shop in Sapam. Pol Capt Chesada Sangsuree of Kuraburi District Police Station said that passengers in the bus told officers that the bus was being driven very fast, and had veered onto the wrong side of the road just before the accident. Police are searching for the driver, who fled the scene. Two women in the crushed car were extracted unconscious. Both were rushed to hospital and are understood to be out of danger. It took police officers several hours to get Khun Arkom’s body out of the wreckage. Khun Arkom is survived by his wife and two children.
