Phummisak named Austrian Consul for the South

PHUKET: Phuket Senator Phummisak Hongsyok, a former Phuket City Mayor and a major businessman on the island, has been appointed Austrian Honorary Consul for Southern Thailand.
K. Phummisak replaces his younger brother Chuchai Hongyok, who has held the position for more than 10 years.
“K. Chuchai just wants to retire,” K. Phummisak told the Gazette.
“I’m very happy that the Austrian Embassy has chosen me to serve the Austrian people because this position helps promote a good image of Thai people and the country to tourists. I’m happy to help in any way that I have the authority to,” he said.
His responsibility includes all provinces in Southern Thailand except Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon.
K. Phummisak said that he has known about his appointment for the past two years, but had decided to wait until the necessary paperwork had been approved by the Austrian Embassy before making the announcement.
“I have been to Austria many times and I’m impressed by the country’s natural beauty. Austria is also a tourism destination, but has many times the number of annual tourists that Phuket does,” he said.
The Austrian Consular office in Phuket can be contacted by phone to 076-248334-6 or Fax: 076-248337. Alternatively, K. Phummisak can be contacted by email at h.wanida@gmail.com
