Phuket students wild carded for ITF tennis tournament
PHUKET: Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Club hosted its inaugural tennis tournament, the Thanyapura Tennis Challenge, last weekend.
As a result of reaching the Men’s Singles final, two 17-year-old students from Satree Phuket School have earned their places in the Chang ITF Thailand Pro Circuit 2011, which will run from October 29 to November 12, again hosted by TSLC.
Thachakorn ‘Kevin’ Tonnon and Pavapon Limsakul, Matthayom 6 and Matthayom 5 students respectively, now have the opportunity to play against tennis professionals from around the region in this prestigious ITF ranking tournament.
The young tennis players could well be drawn against famous Thai players such as Danai Udomchoke (ranked 119th in the world), Kittipong Wachiramanowong (ranked 522nd in the world) and twins Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana, all of whom are scheduled to play in the first ITF tournament to be played in Phuket.
Thachakorn beat Pavapon by a score of eight games to five in a blistering final, having seen off the challenge from eight other competitors en route to the last encounter with his schoolmate.
In addition to the Men’s Singles tournament there was also a Men’s Doubles competition which was won by Washirawit Tanjaroenrat and Chairot Jaroenchaiwatana who defeated Tachakorn Tonnon and Chanatip Rinla by a score of nine games to seven.
Wirote Jitrathorn and Thongchai Jaifu took the Men’s Doubles Leisure title defeating Sornchai Badkrod and Amporn Nookong by eight games to three.
Suthida Hansri and Sureporn Rotjanodom were victorious in the Women’s Doubles event, defeating Nattawan Jhinakul and Amonrat Peavaroonakul, also by eight games to three.
Mr Nicholas Seaver, CEO of Thanyapura, presented the trophy to all winners on conclusion of the tournament.
