Phuket seeks TAT cash for 10 projects
PHUKET: Phuket has named 10 projects it wants the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to fund in order to boost the number of visitors to the island. The 10 projects are: – Underground power lines in Phuket Town, Patong, Kata and Karon; – A pier at Ao Poh; – A second bus station; – Improvements to the four-lane route through Thalang; – Work on the Princess Mahsuri Museum; – Development work on the Phuket Port Control Center; – Establishment of a Tourist Service Center; – A campaign to promote Phuket as “The Golf Paradise of Asia”; – Development of standards in the hospitality industry; – Improvements to Laypang-Bangtao Beach. The projects would cost a total of 700 million baht. The most expensive, at about 450 million baht, would be the underground power lines. A TAT committee in Bangkok will consider suggestions from all provinces before deciding which projects to fund.
