“Phuket proud to host PIMEX’: V/Gov
PHUKET: Phuket Vice Governor Somkiet Sangkaosutthirak today officially opened PIMEX 2011 with resounding praise.
“Phuket is very proud to host such an international event. It is the only event of its kind in Thailand,” he told the crowd gathered at Royal Phuket Marina.
“Phuket is becoming Southeast Asia’s focal point for international-standard tourism and the marine industry. International investment in the marine industry in Phuket has shown continual growth.
“The Thai government understands and appreciates the power of the marine industry and is ready to support its development, such as by lifting import duties on boats.” he added.
More than 90 companies from over 50 countries are taking part in this year’s show, which is expected to draw more than 6,000 visitors.
To help achieve that target, there are more than 40 boats on show in the water. Prices for some of the ultimate cruising craft venture into millions of dollars.
The vice governor praised Royal Phuket Marina as a “model” venue for the event. “It is beautiful with many high-end shops and restaurants for welcoming visitors to the show.
“Together, these make PIMEX just like an international boat show in the Mediterranean,” he said.
The Phuket Gazette and PGTV sponsor this event.
