PHUKET: Phuket is chasing the chance to add to its sister-city collection by strengthening ties with Xiamen, a major city on the southeastern coast of China.
“Having a sister city inside China, such as Xiamen, could be of great benefit for Phuket,” Phuket Governor Nisit Jansomwong said yesterday during his meeting with Chinese Vice-Consul General and Director of the Phuket Office Wang Huijian.
“I urge private businesses to join in building this relationship so we can see a greater exchange economically, culturally and educationally.”
Phuket already has one sister city in China: Hainan. However, the governor made it clear that Xiamen would be a welcome addition.
The most recent sister city to join Phuket’s family was George Town in Penang, Malaysia last month (story here).
