Phuket black spot claims another life
PHUKET: A woman was killed instantly on Tuesday night at the notorious entrance to the Anuphas Manorom housing estate, in front of Promphan supermarket on Chao Fa West Road.
Witnesses told police that Nantawan Suebsa, 33, was waiting for traffic to clear before turning right into the estate when a Subaru sedan, driven by Niphon Itthipon, 37, crossed the center line to overtake another vehicle.
The car slammed into the back of Ms Nantawan’s Honda Scoopy i, launching her across the road along with her heavily damaged motorbike.
She suffered a severe head injury and both her legs were broken.
Witnesses told police Mr Niphon attempted to flee but damage to the front end of his car prevented him from driving off.
Mr Niphon then got out of the vehicle, told witnesses he would turn himself in at the police station and left the scene.
He presented himself to police later that night, Phuket City Police Duty Officer Nanon Pitakkulthon said.
Mr Niphon was charged with reckless driving causing death.
He has been released on 100,000-baht bail.
