Phuket Governor praises English-language media
PHUKET: Phuket Governor Nisit Jansomwong praised the island’s foreign media yesterday during a public forum to raise awareness of the negative effects corruption has on society (story here).
“I am glad that we have the media, especially the English-language media. They have a reporting style that is different from Thai media,” said Governor Nisit at the Royal Phuket City Hotel.
“They provide more extensive, deeply researched reports with accurate information. They tell us exactly what is happening on the island.”
The governor noted that the Phuket Gazette poll on beach policy had helped him develop his beach-management plan.
“When I was finalizing my plans for beach management, I sourced people’s opinions from that poll,” he said.
“Through these outlets, we are able to see the island from a different perspective. We can learn what foreigners think about Phuket.”
Governor Nisit urged the media to keep up the good work and to continue to raise awareness of what is happening on the island.
“I want to see Phuket’s media grow and continue to keep an eye on our island. I am thankful for what they do,” he said. “I am always open to hearing complaints and suggestions from the public. Please come to us with any suggestions you may have to make the island a better place.”
