Patong officer transferred over police brutality allegation

PHUKET: The police officer charged for allegedly beating a Patong bouncer in June has been transferred to Surat Thani while the investigation is underway, Patong Police Superintendent Chaiwat Auikam told the Phuket Gazette.

The investigation follows more than 100 Patong nightlife employees protesting on the street on June 10, after Hollywood Discotheque security guard Kamolchai Singhakerd was allegedly beaten by Lt Col Sorapong Chukaew of the Patong Police (story here). Mr Kamolchai later filed charges against Col Sorapong (story here).

Lt Col Anukul Nuket, who is heading the case, confirmed that the investigation is underway.

“The investigation will be lawful and fair for both parties,” Col Anukul said. “The parties have yet to sit down and talk. No settlement has been reached yet.”
