OrBorTor President resigns over road scandal

CHERNG TALAY: The President and two other members of the Cherng Talay Tambon Administration Organization (OrBorTor) resigned their positions today amid allegations of corruption in a 4-million-baht road project in Moo 2. OrBorTor President Siri Yokthong and his deputies, Suchart Yooyen and Sin Kapana, announced their resignations after a five-hour meeting in the OrBorTor office, chaired by the Chief of Thalang District, Kanthee Silapa. At 5:40 pm, K. Siri went out to face a chanting mob of 150 villagers who had gathered outside, and after being jostled by the angry crowd, apologized for “the OrBorTor’s mismanagement of the project”. Last week, a committee set up to investigate the construction found that the road was substandard. Villagers had complained that it was falling apart just months after completion. An internal OrBorTor election to replace the disgraced president and his deputies will be held next Tuesday. Meanwhile, an investigation continues into the involvement of three Cherng Talay OrBorTor engineers and the local Palad, Dechakanee Leelanont. The results of this are expected on July 6.
