National players dominate volleyball contest

SAPHAN HIN: One hundred and thirty-two volleyballers blocked, dug and spiked their way through the First Annual Phuket Town Municipality Beach Volleyball Competition, which was held at Saphan Hin over the weekend. The tournament was dominated by the three Cheua Saphan Ruam teams, each of which included players from Nakhon Sri Thammarat who are in the Thai national squad. In the men’s competition, Cheua Saphan Ruam came out top of the 14 teams, defeating Pasha Disco 1 by 2 sets to nil to win the final. Chumphon Physical Education College defeated YF 2-0 to take third place. In the final of the women’s competition, Cheua Saphan Ruam 1 beat Cheua Saphan Ruam 2, once again by a 2-0 margin. Patong Beach beat Muang Thalang B 2-0 to take third. In both the men’s and the women’s categories, the winning teams won 4,000 baht while teams that finished second to fourth won 2,000 baht, 1,000 baht, and 500 baht respectively.
