Nanai bars face by-election alcohol ban
PATONG: Businesses on Nanai Rd and parts of Sainamyen Rd and Phisit Gorani Rd will be banned from selling alcohol from 6 pm tomorrow night ahead of the Patong Municipality by-election on Saturday.
A notice issued by Kathu Police Station warns that the sale of alcohol will be prohibited in Patong Municipality Voting District 2 from Friday 6 pm until midnight on Sunday.
The ban affects along both sides of Nanai Rd from Mae Ubon Market to Sainamyen Rd; along the south side of Sainamyen Rd from Nanai Rd to Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Rd; and along both sides of Phisit Gorani Rd from Wat Suwan Khiriwong (Wat Patong) to Nanai Rd.
The ban also affects any businesses in streets leading off the main roads.
For more information about the ban call Kathu Police Station at 076-342769.
The by-election is being held to decide who will replace councilors Prasop Prateep Na Thalang and Weerapong Tonghom, both from the Patong Gao-na Party.
Both councilors resigned their positions on June 19, citing private obligations interfering with their capacity to carry out their duties as their reason for resigning.
Fellow Patong Gao-na member Suwat Somnam is one of six candidates who have entered the by-election. The other candidates are Weerapoj Iamsup from the Sor Tor Kaow Mai Party, and independents Wig Tonghom, Somkiat Kuru, Suttipoj Charoensup and Boontan Piromrit.
Seven polling stations will be set up for the 3,454 registered electors.
