More gamblers nabbed in Phuket

PHUKET: A total of 134 people were arrested between October 1 and 25 for gambling, including betting on soccer and selling illegal lottery tickets – up from 46 in the equivalent period in September, according to the latest statistics from the Phuket Provincial Police. Another 154 people were arrested in Phuket as illegal immigrants, one less than in September. There were 61 cases involving illegal drugs – an increase from 24 – with 63 people involved. Five cases concerned ya bah (methamphetamine), resulting in six arrests and the seizure of 40 pills. There were 67 cases of burglary, purse-snatching, stolen vehicles, extortion and similar offenses, with 36 arrests. There were 33 arrests for prostitution. One case of rape was reported and eight people were arrested for illegal possession of firearms. Sixteen cases of assault resulting in bodily harm resulted in eight arrests. One case of murder was reported, while six people were charged with attempted murder.
