Miss Canada is Miss Universe 2005
BANGKOK: Natalie Glebova, 23, from Canada, was crowned Miss Universe 2005 at about 10 am today.
Miss Glebova was born in Russia but moved with her family to Toronto when she was 12 years old. She is an information technology management and marketing student at Ryerson University, and also works as a model.
Runners-up, in order, were Miss Dominican Republic, Miss Mexico and Miss Venezuela.
The glittering final at Bangkok’s Impac Arena was scheduled to take place at the unorthodox hour in Thailand so it could be broadcast live at prime time in the United States.
Residents of Phuket and surrounding areas had a chance to see the 81 finalists on May 19 when they made a one-day visit to the region to help promote tourism after the tsunami.
