Krabi locals pay respect to metal cow pat
KRABI: Locals are paying their respects to a large chunk of metal that was found in a steaming pile of cow feces yesterday.
“I went to collect the cow poo for fertilizer, and noticed that it was heavier than normal,” said Boonjan Duangjan, 53. “I’ve raised about 15 cows in my palm plantation for more than 20 years, and have never seen something as strange as this.”
Inside the dung, Ms Boonjan found the chunk of metal, weighing about 100 grams and about the size of an egg. She and her brother washed it and then attempted to cut it open with a saw.
“It looks like a baby inside a mother’s belly,” Ms Boonjan said. “We believe that it is good luck, so we have put it on a shelf so we can pray and pay respect to it.”
Narong Benjakun of Livestock Development Office believes that there are only two possible solutions to how the chunk of ‘lucky’ metal ended up in the cow dung: it was either eaten by the cow and passed through its digestive system or it was on the ground and had simply been defecated on.
“If nothing strange happens to the cow’s health, I think the second theory is much more likely,” he said.
