Governor leads 500 bikers in “Bike for Mom’ practice ride
PHUKET: In anticipation of a nationwide Mother’s Day ‘Bike for Mom’ event on August 16, a practice ride was held in Phuket yesterday to determine what issues, if any, the bikers will face on the day.
Phuket Governor Nisit Jansomwong led a brigade of 500 bikers through the 26-kilometer route, which starts at Phuket Provincial Hall, journey through Phuket Town and other communities in the central section of the island, and end at Saphan Hin.
After the practice ride, Governor Nisit noted a few improvements that could be made to enhance safety during the event.
“The participants should ride slow. This is not a race. We will boost safety along the route by arranging more police officers to supervise,” he said.
“We will also make sure island residents are aware of the event so that they can avoid getting stuck in traffic jams during the ride.”
Gov Nisit explained that there would be one more practice ride on August 2 at 3pm, the same time as the practice ride in Bangkok.
“Everyone is invited to join the ‘Bike for Mom’ event on August 16 at 3pm,” Gov Nisit added. “All provinces throughout the nation will be participating in the event.”
