Girl drowns at Nai Harn Beach

NAI HARN: The body of an eight-year-old Thai girl who was pulled under the waves on Wednesday washed ashore at Nai Harn Beach this morning. Pol Capt Anake Mongkol of Chalong Police Station told the Gazette that Nisamanee Malilam was reported missing around 5 pm on Wednesday. Capt Anake said Nisamanee had come to Nai Harn with her aunt and was swimming near Le Royal Meridien Yacht Club when she was knocked over by a big wave. “When police arrived on the scene there were a couple of foreigners and Thais swimming to search for the girl, but the waves were very strong and their attempts failed,” said Capt Anake. Police from Chalong Police Station and Phuket Marine Police searched for the girl in rough conditions on Wednesday night and all day Thursday, but were unable to find her. Around 7:30 this morning, a Nai Harn resident reported to police that the girl’s body had floated back to the beach. This marks the third drowning in Phuket this month. On Saturday, a Russian tourist drowned at Surin Beach, while early this month a Swiss man was swept under the waves in Kata.
