Fisherman killed in knife fight near Phuket port

PHUKET: A 19-year-old Myanmar national was killed in a knife fight on a fishing boat pulling into a Phuket port yesterday afternoon.
The altercation between two Myanmar crew members on the fishing vessel Kiang Chai 11 resulted in the death of Yae Tui. The surviving crew member, Van Chana, 34, was sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital to be treated for a stab wound and other injuries.
“The captain, Ekkachai Boonma, 55, reported the incident as the boat was pulling into Por Pichai Pier in Rassada,” said Sub Lt Saman Phromhom of the Phuket City Police.
“The deceased had a stab wound just below his chest and several other wounds on his body. It is not yet clear what caused the fight.”
Mr Van is facing murder charges, confirmed Sub Lt Saman.
