Fireworks festival postponed

PHUKET TOWN: The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has rescheduled its fireworks festival, which was originally slated to be held at Saphan Hin on July 26. Naphasorn Kakai, Assistant Director of TAT Region 4, today announced that the 45-minute spectacular, using more than 4,000 skyrockets costing about 2 million baht, will now be held on August 12. She explained that the show has been rescheduled to coincide with HM Queen Sirikit’s 72nd birthday. K. Naphasorn also said, “The [main] purpose of holding the festival is to attract more tourists to come to Phuket during the low season.” TAT statistics show that 86,000 Thai and 160,000 foreign tourists visited Phuket in August last year. The TAT is hoping to increase those numbers by about 8%. For more information contact the TAT at Tel: 076-212213 or 076-211036, or Fax: 076-213582.
