Fantasea still showing a loss – CEO

KAMALA: Pin Kewpaisal, President and CEO of Phuket Fantasea, admitted last night that the cultural theme park is still losing money but said that he remains optimistic about the future, and that he believes Fantasea is on the right track. Khun Pin didn’t reveal actual loses, but said Fantasea has to pay about 50 million baht a month just to service the park’s debt. At present the park has about 2,000 guests a day, each spending an average of about 1,500 baht. Currently, it is estimated that only 15-17% of Phuket’s tourists visit Fantasea. Of this number, 65% are Asian, 30% are Europeans, and 5% are Thai. Next year, Fantasea expects the number of visitors to rise to 3,000 a day. Its long-term goal is to have 50% of all tourists visit the park. As far as products are concerned, K. Pin told the press that there is no need to change the show because guests still seem to enjoy it. He announced, however, that there will be some new shows next season. These will include Legends in Concert, a production in which singers and impersonators imitate famous performers, and Kamalarella, a modified version of Cinderella. Prices will remain at 1,500 baht for one show and a buffet dinner.
