Drunk falls down well, drowns
CHALONG: Police are treating the death of a Chalong man whose body was recovered from a well in the Soi Palai area Monday afternoon as an accident.
Pol Lt Col Sanguan Muangtham of the Chalong Police told the Gazette that the victim was probably drunk, fell down the well and drowned.
“This is not a big case, just a guy getting drunk and falling down a well. There was no evidence of foul play, but we recovered a bottle of lao khao (rice whiskey) from the well. All the villagers in the area all knew the man liked to walk around the area when he was drunk. His mother also admitted he was an alcoholic,” he said.
From the condition of the body, dressed in a gray T-shirt and white shorts, Col Sanguan estimated that the victim was aged about 35 and had died at least 24 hours before his body was discovered.
Volunteer rescue workers used rope to hoist the body from its position, partially submerged in water in the well.
The name of the victim was withheld at his mother’s request, Col Sanguan said.
