Drug cases top crime league

PHUKET: Drug cases overtook gambling in the first three weeks of this month in the list of crimes reported. However, gamblers once again topped the league for the number of people arrested. The Phuket Provincial Office reported 64 cases or drug possession or trafficking between October 1 and 21, with 69 people arrested. Cases involving ya bah, which are counted separately from other narcotics offences, totaled 18, with 21 people being arrested and 1,119 pills being seized. Police made 59 raids against gamblers, arresting 104 people. They also arrested 48 illegal immigrants. A total of 22 cases of theft were reported, with arrests made in 16 of them. There were 13 cases of assault occasioning bodily harm, with nine people being arrested. Nine people were also arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, and another nine for prostitution. There were three murders, with no arrests to date; one case of causing death through negligence, again with no arrests so far; and one case of manslaughter, a suspect having been apprehended.
