Couples set to get wet and wed

TRANG: A record number of couples are expected to marry in the annual mass underwater wedding ceremony off Trang on Valentine’s Day. Partly because there’s no need to bring something blue – they will be floating in it – Trang’s watery wedding on February 14 is expected to win a place in the Guinness Book of Records. So far, 36 couples have booked to tie the nautical knot off Kradan Island. Thirty couples from 28 countries took part in the ceremony in 2000, while 33 couples from 33 countries donned diving gear to set the existing record last year. Trang province, with the local Chamber of Commerce, has been arranging the Valentine ceremony each year to promote Thai tourism. Couples wanting to join in should contact the Tourism Authority of Thailand or email underwaterwedding@hotmail.com before January 31.
