Bizarre death “was an accident’

PATONG: Police say they believe that the bizarre death of Rassamee Pholrat was an accident, and they expect to close their investigation soon.

The 22-year-old from Udon Thani was found dead at the Safari Elephant Camp on Siriraj Rd on October 5, half-naked and apparently trampled to death by an elephant.

Kathu Police Superintendent Pol Col Teeraphol Thipjaroen explained to the Gazette, “The victim was found wearing nothing but a singlet and one shoe, but there is no evidence she was raped or murdered.

“We believe she may have attempted to go to the toilet, lost her footing on the steep hillside and tumbled down among the elephants, which then trampled her, either accidentally or because they were frightened.“

Pol Lt Pratheng Polmana, of Kathu Police Station added, “Her body has already been cremated. We expect to close the case before November 5.”
