Not in Pattaya: Police deny viral video of dangerous motorcycle riding

Police insisted that the viral video of a couple riding a motorcycle dangerously on a public road did not take place in Pattaya, contrary to rumours.
The viral video, which surfaced on Thai social media platforms this week, garnered attention and drew criticism towards officers at Mueang Pattaya Police Station. In the footage, a man, reported to be a Thai national, was seen riding a motorcycle at high speed while repeatedly lifting the front wheel.
His girlfriend was seen leaning backwards, touching the road with both hands and lowering her head dangerously close to the surface. Her hair visibly brushed against the road.
The man continued to ride recklessly, weaving between the right and middle lanes of the road until the video ends. The caption on the video states…
“The annoying couple of Pattaya.”
Most Thai netizens condemned the couple for endangering other motorists and pedestrians. Some even wished them harm, expressing hope that they would sustain injuries as a result of their reckless actions, while others mentioned the possibility of fatal consequences.

In addition to criticising the couple, many netizens questioned the actions of Mueang Pattaya Police Station officers, demanding to know what legal measures were being taken against them.
The viral video prompted the Superintendent of Mueang Pattaya Police Station, Anake Sathongyu, to address the matter yesterday, April 1. Anake insisted that the couple did not carry out the dangerous stunt in Pattaya, despite claims made in the video.

He stated that the incident occurred abroad but did not specify the country. Anake also revealed that police identified the main account responsible for spreading the false information. Officers are planning to summon the person who posted the video for further legal proceedings.
Anake assured the public that no one would be allowed to tarnish Pattaya’s reputation.

This incident is reminiscent of a similar case in May 2024, when police officers denied reports of a controversial sexual yoga session on Koh Pha Ngan, an island in the southern province of Surat Thani. That video showed foreign yoga instructors engaging in activities that appeared to be for sexual pleasure rather than health benefits.
Police officers insisted that the session took place in Indonesia, not Thailand. They cited similar videos featuring the same yoga instructors, who were based in Bali, as evidence confirming the true location of the incident.
