Weird World News: Young Guns set fire to castle, plunge down trash chute and take walk of shame
PHUKET: We were all young, free and stupid once. Let’s not forget that when we cast judgment on this trio of troublesome Young Guns who made the cut in this week’s Weird World News.
Smoking is bad for castles
TWO Slovak boys are suspected of setting flame to a 14th century Gothic castle in Bratislava this week.
Police believe the pair were having a sneaky smoke behind Krasna Horka castle, when they set the dry grass at the foot of the castle on fire.
A police spokesperson said the pair’s “carelessness with matches” probably started the fire.
Eighty-four firefighters were deployed to tackle the huge blaze.
The Slovak National Museum reported substantial damage to the castle, but 90 per cent of its collections, including oil paintings from the 19th century were saved from the smokers’ match mishap.
The castle’s bells weren’t so lucky… three melted in the inferno.
Children under the age of 15 cannot be prosecuted in Slovakia, Reuters reported.
Teenager gets stuck in trash chute
AN AMERICAN teenager was so mortified that she dropped her mobile phone down a trash chute she plunged in after it.
But the 19-year-old woman from Atlanta, Georgia didn’t get far, as she became stuck in the chute.
The incident happened Sunday after the woman had scoffed down a hearty fast-food meal, dropped her mobile phone in the food bag and threw it all down the chute.
Realizing her mistake she dove in after the bag and became stuck.
Neighbors in the apartment block came to her aide and called the fire service. She was pulled to safety with only minor injuries.
The fire chief said that he’d heard of people who clean the chutes getting stuck, but not many people take a “swan dive” like the young woman.
Mum embarrasses son, big time
AN AMERICAN mum incensed by her son’s bad grades forced the little fella to wear a degrading sign and stand on a street corner.
Seventh-grader Michael Bell Jr, from Miami, was dubbed “class clown” by his teacher and was sent home with a report card with failing grades, The Telegraph reports.
His mother was not happy.
She ordered him to walk along his street holding a sign that read: “Hey, I want to be a class clown. Is it wrong?”
It also said: “I’m in the 7th grade and got 3 F’s. Blow your horn if there’s something wrong with that.”
After his humiliating ordeal, he told reporters he intends to do better at school.
