Villagers seek lottery luck from ancient neem tree on holy day

As the night deepens, residents seek lottery numbers on a Buddhist holy day, gathering around a neem tree over 100 years old situated near an abandoned house in the rice fields at the edge of Nong Sai village.
Yesterday, February 26, local villagers in Mueang district, Surin province, offered flowers, incense, candles, and red drinks to the ancient tree, hoping to gain lucky numbers for the upcoming lottery draw.
To begin the ritual, the villagers lit incense to inform the spirits before using a knife to scrape the tree’s bark, roughly the size of a palm. They then applied powder and waited for numbers to emerge on the bark, which were photographed for later use in buying lottery tickets.
A 47 year old resident, Lone, shared that since it was a Buddhist holy day, they believed the spirits might grant them luck. He mentioned the neem tree, measuring about four people’s arm spans, had been there since his birth.
The house had been abandoned for over 20 years after the owner passed away at 84 years old, leaving it in a dilapidated state, reported KhaoSod.
The numbers they collectively observed were 5211, interpreted as 521, 211, 52, and 11, along with the house number 120. They plan to try their luck with these numbers in the government lottery draw on March 1, hoping for a chance to win a prize.

In similar news, as the lottery draw approaches, a bizarre discovery in Phayao province has locals buzzing with excitement and hope for good fortune.
A golden crab, caught by a local fisherman, is believed to be a sign of luck, with mysterious numbers appearing on its belly.

Measuring 3.2cm long and 2.8cm wide, the golden-hued crab stood out among the usual catches, sparking curiosity and excitement in the community.
