Northern Thailand: Tourists flock to Doi Mae U-Kor for stunning blooming Mexican sunflowers

The Doi Mae U-Kor mountain is currently attracting a throng of tourists eager to admire the sprawling fields of blooming Mexican sunflowers.

These golden blooms, stretching across 500 acres of hillside, have become a significant draw for visitors, both Thai and international. It is expected that the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will receive no less than 100,000 visitors this winter, eager to experience this natural spectacle.

Thara Chom-Samrong-Lert, the head of Mae U-Kor Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Khun Yuam District, Mae Hong Son Province, revealed that the Mexican sunflowers on Doi Mae U-Kor in Mae U-Kor Subdistrict, Khun Yuam District, Mae Hong Son Province are now in full bloom, covering more than 500 acres of hillside at an altitude exceeding 1,600 metres.

Every day, approximately 300 to 400 tourists are making the journey to appreciate this natural wonder. Visitors can choose either day-trips or overnight stays at the Sunflower Fields National Park. This area is recognised as the largest and most beautiful wild flower field in Thailand, handpicked as a must-visit destination by the TAT.

The Mexican sunflower fields gradually bloom and can be visited until the end of December. Khun Yuam District has set a target, expecting a visitor count not less than 100,000 people. Preparations have been made to ensure visitor convenience and safety. There are several trails leading through the sunflower fields, offering numerous photography opportunities. The best time to visit is in the morning or evening when the temperature is cooler.

Visitors can also enjoy the sea of mist, sunrise, and sunset. Those who visit the Mexican sunflower fields on Doi Mae U-Kor this year will not be disappointed. Besides the stunning sunflower blooms covering the hills, visitors can also appreciate various types of trees and flowers planted to add to the diversity, reported KhaoSod.

From the entrance road to the sunflower fields, there are 360-degree viewpoints, tenting services, OTOP product sales, Mae Hong Son’s quality agricultural products, local food, and local music performances to create a fun and lively atmosphere.

The Doi Mae U-Kor Mexican sunflower field is located 25 kilometres from Khun Yuam District. It is the largest Mexican sunflower field in Thailand and one of the most famous natural tourist destinations in Mae Hong Son Province. It is open for visits from mid-November to late December.
