A thief ran over a homeowner with his car and killed him on the road in the central province of Saraburi yesterday, November 14, before fleeing with the stolen goods.

Phra Putthabat Police Station officers rushed to investigate the death of a 36 year old Thai man named Charoen Katemongkut at around 9am yesterday. Charoen was found dead by the roadside about 1 kilometre from his home.

Charoen had scratches all over his body, blood coming from his mouth and nose and car tyre marks were found on his stomach. Officers found an empty holster hanging from his jeans, but no weapon was found in the area.

Charoen’s father, 60 year old Samroeng Katemongkut, told police that he witnessed the whole incident. A thief had stolen an air conditioning compressor, a solar panel and other electrical appliances from Charoen’s house.

As the thief drove away in his pickup truck, Charoen climbed onto the bonnet. The thief drove off at high speed to get rid of Charoen. Charoen fell off the truck and the thief ran over him several times.

Samroeng said that he pursued the thief on his motorbike, attempting to prevent him from running over his son by forcibly breaking the car window with a knife. Despite his efforts, the thief managed to run over his son one final time before making a swift escape.

Samroeng disclosed that this incident marked not the first intrusion by the thief into both Charoen’s and his residence. Regrettably, the perpetrator had consistently eluded arrest in previous encounters.

The police examined a security camera owned by Charoen’s neighbour. Subsequently, they planned to review other CCTV cameras situated along Phra Phutthabat-Kok Toom Road to trace the escape route employed by the thief.

As per information shared in a rescuer’s Facebook post, a CCTV camera near the incident site revealed that the culprit’s vehicle was a black Mitsubishi Triton pickup bearing registration number 3137, originating from Lob Buri province.
