A Thai man slapped a nurse at a hospital in the eastern province of Rayong after the nurse stopped his young child from entering the hospital ward for the child’s safety.

The incident came to light after a Thai nurse, who uses the Facebook account Prang Tewika, posted about the event yesterday, February 17, seeking justice for her younger sister, who works as a nurse at the same hospital, Rayong Hospital. In her first post, she wrote…

“A family member of a patient slapped a nurse in the face. Any recommendations for a skillful lawyer?”

In a follow-up post, the nurse provided further details, explaining that her sister warned a Thai woman not to bring her young child into the ward. The woman reportedly informed her husband about the warning, which enraged him. He then approached the nurse’s station and slapped her sister twice in the face.

The hospital promptly reported the matter to the local police station. However, the attacker showed no remorse, reportedly stating to the police…

“I should have slapped her outside the hospital. It was the wrong decision to slap her while she was on duty.”

The victim perceived his words as a threat, fearing he might harm her even more if she were outside the hospital premises.

Nurse’s words hurt feelings

After the story went viral on social media, the attacker commented online to share his side of the story. He claimed the nurse spoke disrespectfully to his wife, which he believed insulted his family, prompting him to lash out. He admitted his actions were wrong and stated that he acted in anger.

The attacker’s wife also commented to provide additional context. She explained that her elderly mother, who was the patient at the hospital, contracted influenza from their child. The mother, who loved her grandchild deeply, wanted the child to visit and cheer her up.

The wife claimed that the nurse hurt her feelings with her words allegedly saying…

“Losing a mother isn’t enough? Do you want to lose your child as well? Can you accept that? Take your child out of the room immediately.”

The nurse later admitted during an interview on the news programme Hon Krasae that she made the statement but insisted it was with good intentions. She explained that she wanted to protect the child from potentially contracting influenza from the grandmother.

She added that other medical professionals already warned the family twice not to bring the child into the ward for safety reasons. The nurse said she had to speak sternly to ensure the family complied with the hospital’s guidelines.

The nurse remains adamant about pursuing legal action against the attacker, stating that she never imagined such an incident would happen to her.
