Teenager fatally shot in Hua Hin after Facebook feud turns deadly
A teenager was fatally shot in Hua Hin following an altercation through Facebook that escalated into a deadly confrontation.
Another individual sustained severe injuries in the incident that unfolded on Naresdamri Road in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan province.
The shooting occurred yesterday evening when an argument over social media between the 16 year old boy, identified as Din, and the perpetrator, who had insulted Din’s sister, reached a boiling point. An agreement to meet and resolve the issue in person turned deadly when the perpetrator, arriving on a blue Honda Click motorcycle, opened fire.
Responding to the scene, police found Din’s lifeless body in the middle of the road alongside his mother’s black Honda Wave motorcycle, with a 9mm bullet casing nearby. The shocking scene drew a crowd of locals and tourists, including Din’s distraught sister and mother, who were overwhelmed with grief.
Ken, also 16 years old and a friend of Din, recounted the harrowing moments leading up to the shooting. He stated that he and two other friends were riding motorcycles to run an errand when they coincidentally encountered the perpetrator. Despite thinking that the Facebook dispute had been settled, the situation took a violent turn when the perpetrator unexpectedly shot at them.
As a result of the gunfire, another teen, identified as 18 year old Es, was critically wounded with a chest injury, while Din suffered fatal wounds to his back and arm. Ken, who was riding a pillion, escaped unharmed and was able to identify the shooter, who had not concealed his face and matched the profile picture on Facebook.
The police, led by the Hua Hin station chief, have confirmed that they are closing in on the suspect, whose identity and age are yet to be disclosed. As the investigation continues, forensic officers are meticulously examining the crime scene and the autopsy results to understand the trajectory and cause of the wounds, reported KhaoSod.
The getaway motorcycle was discovered abandoned 200 metres from the scene and has been seized by the police for fingerprint analysis.
