Barking mad: Stray dogs rampage kills 70 fighting cocks at farm
A devastating incident occurred on a cockfighting farm this morning when 70 fighting cocks were killed by a pack of stray dogs, causing a financial loss of 60,000 baht. The owner expressed frustration over the abandonment of the dogs by their previous owner.
The owner of the cockfighting farm in Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima, 27 year old Nonthawat Konsungnoen shared the distressing news. He recounted that in the early hours of today, he was jolted awake around 2.30am by the frantic clucking of his chickens.
Upon investigating, he discovered three Thai-breed stray dogs attacking his cocks on the farm. The dogs fled when they noticed Nonthawat shining a flashlight on them. The vicious attack resulted in the death of 70 fighting cocks, each valued at several thousand baht, amounting to substantial losses upwards of 60,000 baht.
The dogs responsible for the attack were once owned by a previous resident who relocated but neglected to take the dogs along, leaving them without care.
Nonthawat urged the former owner to reclaim the dogs and take responsibility for the incident. He expressed his hope that the dog’s previous owner would come forward to address the issue and prevent further incidents.
Following this unfortunate event, Nonthawat plans to distribute the remaining chickens among the villagers for family meals. This act of community support aims to alleviate some of the losses incurred from the attack and foster a sense of solidarity within the village, reported KhaoSod.
The incident underscores the issue of pet abandonment and the potential consequences it can have not only on community members but also on the abandoned animals themselves. Stray animals, without proper care and supervision, can pose significant risks to people, livestock, and property.
In separate news, residents in the Isaan province of Buriram ensured a stray dog received necessary medical care after its hind leg paws had been cut off.
