Russian minister appreciates Thailand’s neutrality over Ukraine
The Deputy Prime Minister, and Foreign Affairs Minister of Thailand, Don Pramudwinai, visited Russia this week to celebrate the 125th anniversary of friendship between the two nations and invited President Vladimir Putin to attend Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in Thailand in November.
Don traveled to Moscow on Wednesday to meet the Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Lavrov. After the meeting, the ministers announced that both countries would focus on economic cooperation after trade between the nations had increased by almost 30% this year.
Lavrov said Russia would respond to Thailand’s needs for energy supply, fertiliser, and food. The educational cooperation and cultural exchange between the youth of the two countries would be developed too.
Lavrov also expressed his appreciation to Thailand for remaining neutral over the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The minister said…
“We are grateful to our Thai colleagues for a balanced, objective and responsible position on what is happening in and around Ukraine, we are grateful for understanding the true causes of the current situation in the international arena and we’ve confirmed our willingness to share in detail our assessments of everything that is happening.”
Don revealed that the Thai government would host a meeting, the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JC), to discuss economic cooperation between the two countries in Thailand in October.
Don also invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the upcoming APEC meeting in November.
