A desperate young man in Samut Prakan was saved from a near-tragic leap after a heated argument with his mother over wedding funds left him feeling hopeless.

The 20 year old Thai man was spotted yesterday, March 5, sobbing and gripping the railing of a bridge over the Phra Ong Chao Chaiyanuchit Canal in Bang Bo district, seemingly ready to jump.

Volunteer rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation arrived at the scene and immediately called Bang Bo police for backup.

Witnesses described a tense 20-minute standoff as both rescuers and locals tried to talk the distressed man down. He repeatedly expressed his despair, telling those around him that he no longer wished to live.

When police arrived, they continued efforts to persuade him, eventually convincing him to step away from the edge and move to a safer part of the bridge.

Concerned for his well-being, officers invited him into their patrol car to cool off from the scorching heat before taking him to a nearby restaurant for a cold drink and a much-needed conversation.

Once calmer, the man revealed the root of his emotional breakdown. He had been saving up to marry his partner but had fallen short of his goal.

Hoping for support, he turned to his mother, only to be met with rejection and scolding. Overcome with frustration and despair, he left home on his motorcycle and headed straight for the bridge, contemplating ending his life, reported KhaoSod.

After receiving words of encouragement from police and rescue workers, he gradually regained his composure. He assured officers that he would not attempt such an act again but declined to share further details with the media.
