A large monitor lizard caused a stir at a prominent bank in the early hours of this morning, prompting police and bank staff to intervene. Despite orders to stop, the reptile remained uncooperative. The lizard, weighing 20 kilogrammes, was eventually captured and released back into the wild.

At 8.30am yesterday, Deputy Traffic Inspector of Phimai Police Station, Suphanroj Imwiset, was performing traffic duties in the municipality of Phimai, Nakhon Ratchasima, when security staff at the Phimai branch of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) reported an unusual incident. The bank, located at 264 Phimai Road, had an unexpected visitor: a large monitor lizard had run into the establishment.

Suphanroj and municipal disaster relief officers quickly arrived at the bank, equipped with tools designed for capturing reptiles. Upon arrival, bank staff led them to a storage room at the back of the building, where the large lizard, over 1 metre in length and weighing approximately 20 kilogrammes, had taken refuge.

Due to the size of the monitor lizard, it required the efforts of two officials to secure it. During the capture, the officers repeatedly ordered the lizard to stop moving but it continued to struggle. In a light-hearted attempt to calm the situation, one of the police officers jokingly told the lizard,” Stop struggling; the police are here.”
