Six individuals posing as delivery service riders were apprehended in Khlong San district yesterday on suspicion of drug trafficking.

Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) Deputy Commissioner Thinnakorn Rangmat announced that the suspects were detained in the Wat Thong Phleng community, located in the Khlong Ton Sai subdistrict.

Authorities confiscated 6.95 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, 100,000 methamphetamine pills, 78.3 grammes of heroin, and 22.38 kilogrammes of ketamine. Additionally, a 9mm firearm, ammunition, and motorcycles were seized from the suspects.

Thinnakorn indicated that the arrests were part of a concerted effort by the MPB, the Bangkok Narcotics Control Office, and the Welfare of Women and Children Subdivision (WWCS) of the Royal Thai Police to suppress narcotic drug activities.

“The arrests followed a report from the WWCS concerning narcotic drug sales in the Wat Thong Phleng community and surrounding areas.”

The suspects disguised themselves as riders for mobile delivery services, using motorcycles to transport the drugs. The narcotics were hidden inside parcels and placed in the backseats of the bikes to evade police detection.

Investigators identified two motorcycles without licence plates, which the suspects used for transportation, leading to further investigation and subsequent arrests.

All suspects confessed to their involvement, admitting to operating for at least five months. They revealed that they received narcotics from other dealers two or three times monthly and earned 80,000 baht per delivery.

These drugs were stored at their homes before being delivered to clients at least five times daily, Thinnakorn said.

“Due to the pervasive issue of narcotics in communities, it is crucial for residents to promptly inform the police of any suspicious activities.”

The authorities continue to stress the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in combatting drug-related crimes, reported Bangkok Post.

In related news, in a significant crackdown on illegal pharmaceuticals and sex toys, Thai Cyber Police arrested a 43 year old vendor, seizing a large haul of contraband. This operation took place on May 10 at a second-hand car tent in Yala province following an undercover purchase that led to the discovery of the storage location.
