Drug-addicted Thai man kills friend’s mother and injures 2 others

A drug-addicted Thai man killed his friend’s mother and injured two other victims at a house in the Isaan province of Loei yesterday.

A 55 year old Thai father, Auan, called officers at Nong Hin Police Station to arrest his son, 22 year old Ratchanon, yesterday morning, March 20.

Auan revealed that he heard the community leader announce the brutal murder at a house in the community and suspected his son, who had arrived home that morning displaying suspicious behaviour.

Auan rushed to his son’s bedroom immediately after the announcement and found him lying on his bed, covered with a blanket. He pulled the blanket off and noticed bloodstains on his son’s clothes.

During questioning, Ratchanon admitted to killing the 53 year old woman, Natcha, at her home, which is about 500 metres from his own, at around 4.30am. Natcha was the mother of his friend, 25 year old Pakkaphon.

Ratchanon stated that he arrived at the victim’s home on his motorcycle and entered Natcha’s bedroom through a window. Natcha woke up and was frightened, leading to a physical altercation before he stabbed her to death.

Pakkaphon and his 16 year old sister, Khunthida, came to help their mother and were injured in the incident as well.

Natcha sustained a fatal stab and cut wounds to her head, right arm, and body. Pakkaphon was slashed on his arm, while Khunthida nearly lost her left hand during the attack.

Natcha’s neighbour, 45 year old Supharp, heard noises and screams coming from Natcha’s home and went to investigate, encountering the shocking scene. Supharp said that Ratchanon was not present when he arrived.

Auan admitted that his son had been using cannabis and methamphetamine, also known as Yaba, since he was 15 years old. He took his son to a psychiatric hospital in the hope that he would quit drugs, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
