Barely legal: Naked antics of Polish couple spark fury in Koh Pha Ngan

Thailand’s image as a tropical paradise took another hit this week after a naked Polish couple were caught hugging in the middle of a road, and later sunbathing starkers on a popular Koh Pha Ngan beach, shocking locals and sparking fresh calls for action against unruly foreign tourists.

The Polish holidaymakers stunned passers-by when they were spotted standing completely nude in the middle of a public road in Koh Pha Ngan, Surat Thani, embracing each other without a care in the world or any regard for oncoming traffic.

The incident, which took place on today, April 29, prompted concerned locals to alert the police. Officers from Koh Pha Ngan District Administration, local police and Tourist Police rushed to Village 1 in Ban Tai Subdistrict, where they were met with the bizarre sight of the couple boldly displaying their affections, stark naked.

But the X-rated antics didn’t end there.

Shortly after, the same couple were discovered again, this time lying completely naked on the sand at Ban Kai Beach, Village 4, soaking up the sun as if they were on a private nudist retreat, not a public family beach.

Officers asked the pair to cover up and identified them as 27 year old Mr Michal, and 24 year old Ms Claudia, both Polish nationals. The couple were told their behaviour was illegal under Thai law. They were promptly arrested and charged with “committing an act that is shameful in public by exposing or revealing the body or committing other obscene acts.”

They were taken to Koh Pha Ngan Police Station for further legal proceedings, KhaoSod reported.

But this isn’t the first time tourists have gone starkers in public in recent weeks, and locals are losing patience.

Earlier today, a drunk foreign tourist was filmed wandering completely nude through Phuket Town’s Rattanakosin 200 Years Road, seemingly posing for cameras while drawing gasps from stunned bystanders.

The man, who appeared heavily intoxicated, sauntered past shops and traffic near the Phuket Vocational College as if he didn’t have a stitch of shame.

And just days earlier, on April 16, shoppers at a fresh market in Thalang district did double takes when another naked foreign man casually strolled through the streets near the Bangkok Bank and Heroines Monument in broad daylight, unbothered by the crowds.

Locals are now calling on police to crack down on what many see as a rising tide of disrespectful behaviour by visa-free visitors.

“Thailand is a country with culture and respect. This is getting out of hand,” said one furious resident. “These people are treating our streets like a nudist beach.”
