Lisa Marie Presley dies of suspected heart attack, aged 54
Lisa Marie Presley, the only daughter of rock and roll legend Elvis, died of a suspected heart attack in the early hours of this morning. She was 54 years old.
Paramedics were sent to a Calabasas home at 10.37am (6.37am Thai time) after receiving a report of a woman in cardiac arrest, according to Craig Little, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County fire department. The address is listed as a residence of Presley in property records, reported Aljazeera.
Tabloid news website TMZ reported, citing a source close to Lisa Marie Presley, that she was found unconscious in her bedroom on Thursday morning. At the same time, her former husband Danny Keough, who also resides at the property, arrived and attempted CPR but failed.
Lisa’s mother, Priscilla Presley, confirmed the news that her daughter had died.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us.
“She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known.”
On Tuesday, Presley attended the Golden Globes where Austin Butler received the award for best actor for his portrayal of her father in Baz Luhrmann’s film “Elvis.”
During a red-carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, she praised Butler’s performance as “mind-blowing.”
“I really didn’t know what to do with myself after I saw it. I had to take, like, five days to process it because it was so incredible and so spot on and just so authentic that, yeah, I can’t even describe what it meant.”
Lisa Marie Presley was nine years old when her father died in 1977.
She followed her father into the music industry and released her debut album in 2003, To Whom It May Concern, which made the top 10 of the Billboard 200 album chart. She followed it two years later with Now What, which also made the top 10.
A third album, Storm and Grace, was released in 2012. She even formed direct musical ties with her father, adding her voice to such Elvis recordings as In the Ghetto, and Don’t Cry Daddy.
Presley was married four times, including to actor Nicolas Cage and singer Michael Jackson, and had four children. One of her children, her son Benjamin Keough, committed suicide in 2020.
She became the sole heir of the Elvis Presley Trust when her father died.
The trust, along with Elvis Presley Enterprises, oversaw Graceland and other assets until Presley sold her majority stake in 2005.
She retained ownership of the Graceland Mansion and the surrounding land. The property is also the burial site for her son, as well as her father and other members of the Presley family.
