Fire in Phuket town destroys four houses
Another fire following a string of fires over the past week in Phuket.
The fire started in a sofa shop near Komarapat Intersection in Phuket Town and has destroyed four houses causing damage valued at approximately 1 million Baht.
Before noon today (February 15), Muang Phuket Police received a report about a fire on the side of Thepkasattri Road, near the Komarapat Intersection.
Police went to the scene with six fire trucks and fire fighters from the Phuket Municipality. The fire started from a one-story sofa shop named Sri Sawat. Firefighters tried to extinguish the fire but it was very difficult because there were many flammable objects in the sofa shop.
The fire spread to another three buildings nearby but eventually the fire was quelled after more than an hour.
At the time the fire started there was no one inside the shop. The owner of the shop said that before the fire there were candles and joss sticks lit on the Buddhist altar before the owner left the shop to deliver a sofa.
The shop owner learned about the fire after a neighbour contacted them. People in the area had already tried to help using fire extinguishers but couldn’t stop the intense blaze.
Forensic Police are investigating the scene to search for clues as to the cause of fire.
