Police in Bangkok seize 2 truck loads of sex toys valued at 1 million baht
Sex toys valued at 1 million baht were seized by police in Bangkok. Reports don’t say exactly how many sex toys were seized by police, but apparently, police filled 2 large trucks with the dildos, vibrators and other pleasure enhancing products. A Chinese man was arrested for allegedly smuggling illegal sex products into Thailand and selling them online.
Photos from a press conference show police displaying the sex toys seized in the raid and an officer holding up a butt plug with a raccoon tail attached. The suspect allegedly obtained the toys from China and sold them to Thai buyers through Facebook and the messaging app Line.
Sex toys are illegal in Thailand. Under the conservative Thai law, those caught selling or possessing sex toys could face up to 3 years in jail and an up to 60,000 baht fine. Since the products have not gone through a quality and safety check, police say the products could harm people and those should avoid using the unregistered products.
Despite the law, sex toys are openly sold on the street in Thailand, particularly near Bangkok’s redlight districts such as the Nana area off Sukhumvit Road. And according to a recent report from Vice, Thailand’s illegal sex toy market is “booming.”
