The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation last night warned that Bangkok and the other 10 provinces along the Chao Phraya River need to prepare for the possibility of floods because of rising sea levels predicted from tomorrow until August 1.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department reported at 10pm that the water level of the Chao Phraya River was high due to recent rainfall over the past few days, and the department is draining the water to the connected rivers and canals.

The department predicts that the water level would increase to about 0.50 metres in some canals and rivers in central Thailand, including Phong Pheng Canal in Ang Thong province, Bang Ban Canal, and the Noi River in Ayutthaya province.

The department reported that the sea level would rise between July 28 to August 1, increasing the water level in Chao Phraya River to 1.90 – 2.10 metres, which could affect Bangkok, Samut Prakarn, and some parts of Nonthaburi.

The department urged communities along the Chao Phraya River to move their electric appliances and assets up to the second floor of the house if possible or a higher place to reduce any flood damage to personal belongings.
