178 rai at Layan & Laypang beaches to be public park
Phuket’s Governor has set up a committee to work on the 178-rai land’s issues at Layan and Laypang beaches. He’s made it quite clear… “businesses and whoever is occupying the beach land must move out”.
“We will enforce the law according to the court to evict them. First of all,we will announce that it is illegal from now on to occupy that area,” said the Governor.
“There will also be a group of our committee who will go and measure the 178-rai land and specify the exact border of the plot. This will be done urgently. The public beach land will be an area for common use and it will be developed into a public park.”
“Locals, expats and tourists should see it as a good thing that we now have an extra 178-rai public land that people can share together.”
The Deputy Governor, who is the head of the committee, together with local authorities, military officers and police will conduct a strict and consistent beach management to ensure encroachment doesn’t occur.
“The beach management remains the same and I would like people to cooperate with the local governments. For the beach chairs and umbrellas, they are only allowed in the 10 percent zone as before,” he added.
