The Meteorological Department of Thailand (TMD) forecasts that weather across Thailand will remain cool, with particularly cold conditions on mountain peaks, where frost may occur. The northeast monsoon covers the Gulf of Thailand. Some provinces will experience rain tomorrow, January 8.

In the next 24 hours, the northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions of Thailand will experience cool to cold weather. The upper southern region, including Bangkok and surrounding areas, will be cool with morning fog.

On mountain tops and peaks, the weather will be cold to very cold, with frost expected in some areas. Residents in northern and upper southern Thailand are advised to take care of their health due to the cold weather and to be cautious of potential fire hazards due to dry conditions.

Caution is also advised while travelling through foggy areas. This weather is due to high pressure or cold air masses covering upper Thailand, the upper southern region, and the South China Sea.

The TMD has updated its 15-day forecast, predicting prolonged chill until mid-month, with increased rainfall. Today’s weather update warns of cold to very cold conditions with rain in 10 provinces.

The northeast monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea is moderately strong, causing thunderstorms in some areas of the lower southern region. Waves in the lower Gulf are about 2 metres high, while upper Gulf waves are 1 to 2 metres high. In stormy areas, waves exceed 2 metres. Mariners should navigate cautiously and avoid areas with thunderstorms.
